Yohji Yamamoto's looks for Spring are full of striking flourishes from head-to-toe...literally.
Sultry silhouettes draped in black and white were crowned with everything from playful headpieces to smart fedoras to heavy helmets complete with chinstraps. And veering from the norm, comfort was key in the footwear, with pairs of flats and athletic shoes parading down the runway.
Lucky Editor-In-Chief Eva Chen notes that it's a trend to keep an eye on for Spring, "We've seen a lot of sneakers on the runway," said Chen, "Like, ON the runway...And I don't think the sport kind of notion is going out anytime soon."
Keeping the more dramatic choices in check were draping voluminous layers, both sheer and opaque, long skirts balanced with the occasional cropped tops and flashes of bold gold to break up the black and white.
"I noticed a lot of apron dressing. You know, layers with ties over shirts," remarked Susan Kaufman, People StyleWatch Editor, of the trends she's seeing for Spring, "A lot of very feminine silhouettes, like full skirts."
Chen welcomes the long lengths, saying, "[I'm seeing] longer hemlines and a lot of longer lengths. That will be something very practical that women will be able to take and wear day-to-day in their work life and in their personal life."
...And perhaps that's what Yohji Yamamoto had in mind when designing this collection in which the collision of the practical and the dramatic provides endless style options for Spring.
