Book Review: The Art of the Crash Landing by Melissa DeCarlo

Mattie Wallace is known for ruining her life with bad decisions. And now she’s done it again. Leaving her boyfriend, she’s newly pregnant, and chasing the ghost of her deceased mother.  Impulsively Mattie flees to Gandy, OK where her grandmother has left her a possible inheritance.

In Grandy, Mattie discovers the mystery of her mother, apparently the alcoholic woman Mattie knew is not quite the same as people in the small town remember her.  Mattie’s mother was a talented musician who fled town and no one knew why.  Determined to figure out her mom’s life before she was born, Mattie starts poking around. In order to learn why she keeps making mistakes in her own life, she needs to understand why her mother made the choices she did.

This is a funny, charming novel that is a definite must-read for fall.
