The Kelsey on the House star's tips and tricks to give any room a facelift

From the LifeMinute team
Looking to spruce up your home this summer? Brian Kelsey from Kelsey on the House shares his favorite tools, paints, accessories and do-it-yourself tips to give any room a makeover.
Use the Right Tools

"Tools are where it all begins," says Brian, "If you have the wrong tools, you are not going to do the job correctly." Brian's tool of choice is the Dremel Ultra-Saw 3-in-1. "I love it because it's powerful, it's light, and it cuts through everything, and you don't need a lot of different tools," he says. Use it to cut through metal, plastic, plexiglass and wood.

DIY Tool Tip

Use the Dremel Ultra-Saw 3-in-1 to replace broken tile. Just trim around the grout, pop out the tile and replace it with a new one. And don't forget to snap a picture if you're working with your dad. Dremel is offering a chance to win $5,000 on their Facebook page -- just upload a picture of your dad to enter.

Paint Can Spruce Up Anything
When it comes to paint, Brian says it is one of those things that really anybody can do. Brian likes Shabby Paints because they're environmentally friendly. "They contain no VOCs, they are hypoallergenic, they are just fantastic; they exceed all sorts of green building standards so you're not going to have to worry about it effecting you or the environment," he says. Go to their Facebook page where they have a whole community of designers that can answer questions, or check out shabbypaints.com.
DIY Paint Tip

Brian suggests taking an old mirror and painting over it. He took one with a gold finish and painted on a light coat of Peacock blue. Make sure the gold still comes through for a cool effect.

Finish the Job with Accessories

Brian says you can top off any home project with fun and unique accessories. He found great pillows from Kohl's for just $24.99. "They're perfect," he says, "Pillows can change a room instantly." Try them in different colors to accent any room.

DIY Accessories Tip

Brian says vintage Mason jars are fantastic, cheap, and you can do all sorts of things with them. "You can group them together, you can put some drinks in there, or you can put flowers in there or any kind of shells," he says. The little elements really add character and make your room pop.
