May is Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month and peak season for the more than 50 million Americans who suffer. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America’s 2019 Spring Allergy Capitals Report, Springfield, Massachusetts is the fifth most affected city in the U.S. For 10 year-old Quincy and his family who live there, every day can be challenging.
“Quincy was a premature baby and he started off with the whole asthma and so on, when he finally got to the point where we knew that it was allergy-induced asthma. He’s now allergic to pretty much seasonal and anything outside,” says Quincy’s mom, Sherondia.
To help them out, LG Electronics, along with home space expert, Egypt Sherrod, surprised the family with a “home refresh.”
“I came to do a mini-makeover with LG’S amazing asthma and allergy products," she told us. "They have a whole line of appliances that are made just for this, for instance the washer has a cycle called the allergen cycle and it helps reduce household dust and allergens, just throw your clothes and comforter in there and it makes life that much easier. But, my favorite is the LG Styler. You can take all of your kids stuffed animals and wash them in 20 minutes."
According to LG, these machines remove 99.9% of the allergens, dust and pollen that collect on your clothing, just from being outside and that helps you from spreading those allergens throughout your home.
Other things you can do? “Those drapes that are trapping all of that dust, take them off and use linen drapes,” said Sherrod. “A few things I did in Quincy’s room, I got rid of those pillows and the comforter because those were trapping dust and instead I put asthma and allergy-certified pillows and a microfiber comforter.”
