Ever wonder what your home smells like? A new study from Atomik Research concludes that home odor is very important to both residents and guests. Nearly half of those surveyed (48%) said that they could make out someone's home simply by the odor alone. However, residents are often immune to the scent of their own homes, a phenomenon Febreze dubbed "noseblindness." The brand has teamed up with comedian Jane Lynch to tackle the issue in a new PSA-style video produced and directed by Funny or Die.
"Generally speaking, many people experience "noseblindess" on a daily basis, and there's a pretty cool reason behind it," says Lynch, "Your brain registers scents and dismisses those that don't pose a threat or require an action; that way your nose and your brain are freed up to focus on other surroundings."
Lynch, along with some doctors and scientists, educated New Yorkers and passersby on just how "serious" the phenomenon of "noseblindness" can be through staging stinky vignettes of typical home odors and how to get rid of them. This is good news for the one third of those surveyed who didn't think their home has a specific scent.
"I think a very good friend tells a very good friend if their house has a stink about it," says Lynch, "That is why I love Febreze...it will eliminate those odors and not just mask them."
