Whether you're having first date butterflies or just looking to spark up your next date night, Lifestyle Expert Yale Breslin and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Shannon Chavez have the scoop on the latest tips and trends in the dating world.
Dr. Chavez knows you've heard it before, but it's worth repeating, "Now we all know you never have a second chance to make a first impression, especially on a first date."
Yale seconds that, "I completely agree. Guys pay attention to everything, from what you're wearing to the style of your hair."
But does a good date really boil down to good hair? Wella Professionals decided to find out, partnering with the biggest online dating company in the world, Match, to find out how haircut, style and color can help single men and women get lucky in love. The name of the study? "Love is in the Hair," natch, and Dr. Chavez says the results are interesting. "The study found that 50% of men prefer curly and wavy hair on a woman, finding it sexy and irresistible, where a quarter of the men find sleek and straight hair on a woman to be wife-worthy," reports Dr. Chavez. The doc, who counts Wella among her fave salon brands, says, for a sleek look, one of her favorite products is the Keratin Boost Leave In Conditioning Spray from the LuxeOil collection. "It really leaves your hair sleek and manageable," says Dr. Chavez. Check out Wella.com for more info, as well as some great tips for how to keep your hair date-ready. Dr. Chavez adds, "Also [use] #LoveIsInTheHAIR when you're on your next date, and let us know if you've found a match."
Now for the guys, it's all about that face. Yale gets right down to business, giving us the lowdown on the products that work for him, "Let's talk about something that's important to the dating world and that is grooming. Nivea for Men Sensitive Face Wash thoroughly cleanses your skin without drying it out; it gently removes impurities, dirt and oil and the cleanser is soap and dye-free. And there's no drying alcohol either, so the skin won't experience that tight feeling." Find it at Walmart for $4.95. As for getting a good, clean shave, Yale suggests, "Nivea for Men Sensitive Shaving Cream is a really good way to get a close, comfortable shave, even on your most sensitive skin. And, like before, there's no drying alcohol, either, so there's no tight feeling." Find it for $3.99 at either Rite Aid or Amazon.com, and get more info at NiveaMenUSA.com.
Yale adds, "Now we have something else that's equally important, and that's fashion - people pay attention to it." Yale says, for the guys, making a good first impression can be as easy as a flick of the wrist. "Casio G-Shock GPW-1000 is the world's first GPS Atomic Solar Hybrid watch; it receives information from six GPS satellite transmissions worldwide, so you're always on time, and you have the most accurate time," he explains. "It shows world time, it's water-resistant up to 200 meters, and it has this beautiful sapphire crystal face and carbon fiber insert band. A total conversation piece, if you ask me." Dr. Chavez says being budget-savvy can be important when putting together your date look. "You don't want to spend a fortune doing it," says the doc, so she recommends Kohls.com, where they have designers like Marc Anthony, and for a limited time, Elie Tahari for DesigNation. "And they're all at really affordable prices," she adds.
So get shopping and get styling to get that date of yours to see how amazing you are inside and out.
