Badgely Mischka Spring 2013: Fashionista's Fairy Tale Come True
The Spring 2013 Badgely Mischka runway was more like a peaceful fairies' woodland forest than the usual frenetic celebrity-filled fashion show. The ready-to-wear collection featured beautiful romantic pieces in soft pastel colors and shimmery neutrals. Cellophane tweed, chiffon, lace, tulle and sequins all came together in an exquisite and highly detailed collection.
"Spring is really a fun season for us. It's inspired by the movie Midsummer Night's Dream, the 1935 version which we colorized in our head," the designer Mark Badgely told us. "It's a neutral collection, but all soft color. We steered away from bright and certainly from black," added designer James Mischka. "There's very much a collage effect when we have to five, six or seven different fabrics and mended them all together in one piece," said Mischka. The beauty look of the fashion show added to the dreamlike vibe. "It's a very romantic feeling for the hair and makeup, like a woodland nymph," said Badgely. Models wore loose updos adorned with flowers and wispy pieces floating out. "We talked about flowers in the hair. Forest, fairy, ethereal. There's a braid horizontally across the back of the head. That braid creates a shelf for everything else to sit on," explained hairstylist Peter Grey.
What women really love most about Badgely Mischka is their attention to detail, and now that includes accessories. "It's the first time we are showing fine jewelry. We have some that are very artisanal. It's all hand hammered and hand enameled and the stones are all set by hand. It's very fun, very whimsical," says Badgely. "I particularly love the gowns. They're always amazing and very sophisticated," said Allyson Felix, Track & Field, U.S. Olympic Team, from the front row.
Other A-listers who attended were Katrina Bowden, Aly Raisman, Lauren Conrad and Kevin Jonas. "Every runway show you hear the music. Fashion rock'n'roll. It's part of the same," said the Jonas Brother before the show started and the music was pumping. We said peaceful, but not boring.
