Jenny Packham Spring 2013 Rolls The Dice On Vegas
Sparkles! Sequins! Shimmer! The Jenny Packham Spring 2013 catwalk at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was as bright as The Strip. "The collection was inspired by a 1950's Las Vegas, the Rat Pack time when Las Vegas was the coolest place in the universe," the designs told us backstage. "I had this idea of what it should be, then obviously tried to make that less retro and modernize it," said Packham. "Oh my god. The dresses were beautiful.
I was like, I want that one! I want that one!," said actress Jordana Brewster. Other front row celebrities included Minka Kelly, Brad Goreski and Lauren Conrad.
Side-swept ponytails that were just as swooshy as some of Packham's embellished dresses sealed in that glamorous style. "The ponytail has a few elements within the style that are a nod to the 70's. There's a really deep side part and we're over-directing that front section forward, so as we start twisting back, it actually flips. We like that asymmetry of having it over one eye" says Jeanie Syfu, Lead Stylist, TRESemme.
"We have such a dream team," says Packham of her hairstylists and makeup artists. "I'm really up for new ideas and making it more contemporary with the ponytail. That keeps it young and pretty, thanks to those fluid lines in the hair. For the makeup, we took a 60's look but did it in blue just to make it fresh," says Packham.
