The VPL Spring 2013 Fashion Week Salutes The Olympics
Models strutted down the VPL Spring 2013 fashion show catwalk at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week draped in soft, feminine pasetl fabrics cut in sporty shapes and topped with a lot of sequins. "It's a nod to the Olympics. It's soft colors juxtaposed with an athletic, more sporty feel. And the hair is great. It's kind of like this Japanese basket weave. There's a lot of structure combined with this sort of feeling of flight of movement and velocity," said VPL designer Victoria Bartlett. "We're actually doing a very beautiful fishtail braid," lead hairstylist Bob Recine told us. "Nice beautiful shine by Phyto, a light and heavier spray we use. We're taking a very simple ponytail and making it something very design, geometry oriented like the clothes are," he said. "I love Phyto products because it's a plant-based product which is amazing and I'm more and more into their kind of quality that they produce. We're in the business of reconstructing hair over and over and over again and we have to be able to break down what was previously done. Phyto is an amazing product in the sense that it can be broken down without a residue build-up, so we can kind of continually go over and use it again, " said Recine.
