Wes Gordon Spring 2013 Presentation: Darkly Ethereal
"I approached spring thinking how can I love spring as much as I love fall? It's darkly ethereal," designer Wes Gordon told us of his Spring 2013 presentation during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City.
"I incorporated a lot of the things I love about fall. It's a spring palette and a spring weight of fabrics, but with a little darkness and a lot of fall textures," said Wes, whose inspiration for the collection was the traditional tarot. Key pieces included a hand-drawn swan print, delicate knits, Chantilly lace blouses and sparkly tulle pants. "We worked with Swarovski for the embroideries and I'm really excited about them, there's great shine," he said. Featured colors were a cool light green, black, red and white. "Doing a color palette is kind of an evolution.
I start with one color I love and I'm excited about, and in this case it's a color we're calling ice, which is this light minty green. I started with that, I loved it and I thought it felt really fresh. I started just adding things to it, and see if they work or I'd take them away, until eventually you end up with a little story of friends, colors that could be at the same party together," explained Gordon.
