With Memorial Day weekend around the corner and National Road Trip Day (May 28) coming up, planning your road trip is the way to go this year to avoid crowded airports and public transportation. Whether you’re going on a short trip or a cross-country voyage, here is the travel checklist to make the most of your road trip.
Fuel Your Car
While you’re getting gassed up, don’t forget to check your car’s oil, transmission fluid, and washer fluid.
Check Your Tire Pressure
In the major grooves of a tire, there are “wear indicator bars.” These are little rubber modules inside the grooves of your tires. When the tires wear down and the tread is even with the bar, it’s time to replace your tires.
Snack Attack
Don’t forget to fuel yourself. Make sure to have healthy, easy-to-eat snacks for your trip. Consider things that won’t melt, get smooshed, or go bad in the heat. Don’t forget to hydrate too, pack plenty of water. And keep extra trash bags to keep it tidy.
Keep a Roadside Emergency Kit
Keep a spare tire in the trunk, jumper cables, reflective triangles, a flashlight, a good old-fashioned map in case you can’t get a signal on your phone, a fire extinguisher, blanket, and a pocket knife.
Sun Protection
UVA and UVB rays can get through the windows of your car so use sunscreen and reapply it throughout your trip. Every two hours is recommended.
Entertainment
Last but not least, you’ll need something to listen to. A killer playlist or binge-listening to your favorite podcast will help the hours fly by.
