First, make sure that your products are not expired, which can cause allergic reactions and breakouts. One sign that they're past their freshness date? Any sign of discoloration. Next, check the dates on the bottles. "Serums and foundations can usually last about six months," says New York City dermatologist Dr. Dendy Engelman.
Tip number two for de-cluttering: Edit the vast array of products that are in our medicine cabinet. "There is no reason in the world to have more than one bronzer. In our skincare regimen we only need a serum, a day cream, a night cream and an eye cream, and so this is another way to simplify," says the doctor.
Number three is to use a multitasking product. "One of my favorites is called Bio-Oil, which has a proprietary blend of ingredients that helps enhance absorption of the oil into the skin. Some of my patients are frequently worried that oils are going to be greasy and leave a residue on their skin but the reality is that the PurCellin Oil allows for enhanced hydration without a greasy feel," she says, adding, "I just had a baby two months ago and I use Bio-Oil throughout my entire pregnancy in order to prevent stretch marks, which is was originally formulated for."
Backed By Science
According to clinical studies, 95% of patients showed improvement in their stretch marks after just two weeks of use. And after eight weeks of use 100% of participants in the study said that their stretch marks looked better.
Multi-Benefit Ingredients
Bio-Oil can also can be used on burns and scars, either old or new. It helps improve their appearance with ingredients such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Rosemary, calendula, chamomile oils and lavender oils. "All of these are fantastic for the skin, enhance dehydration, and help to transition us from the winter months into the spring months with enhanced hydration and beautiful-appearing skin," Engelman says.
