The magazine's readers/testers sniffed out 242 scents that launched this year and came up with 24 favorites. Kate Sandoval, SELF's Beauty Features Editor, shares some of the winners.
Flora by Gucci in Gorgeous Gardenia inspired by the fashion house's flora pattern, won best white flora. It has top notes of berry and pear -very light like a gardenia's first blossom. Then it becomes rich and addictive with base notes of patchouli and brown sugar like the flower in full bloom. $100.00 at Macy's, Saks as well as macys.com and saksfifthavenue.com.
Best a-list celebrity scent goes to Lady Gaga's fame. It's the first-ever black eau de parfum, with a patent-pending black-to-clear technology that is invisible when sprayed. The scent opens with dark notes of belladonna and incense that lead to apricot, saffron and honey essences. The cap is inspired by Lady Gaga's signature monster claw. $79 at Macy's and Sephora.
Self's testers loved new celeb fragrances like Tim Mcgraw's Soul2Soul which won best spicy cologne for men. It's strong, dark and woodsy. Sexy and modern just like Tim! Hints of white pepper and blackberry brandy. It symbolizes eternal love so pick up some for your guy this holiday season! $31.50 at mass retail.
When you need to make a statement, Kate says the ultimate is Tom Ford's Lys Fume. It's alluring and mysterious. A darker twist on the traditional and iconic white lily with a touch of intoxicating rum essence. $205 at department stores such as Neiman Marcus, Saks and select Nordstrom stores.
And finally Curve appeal wins most sexy without even trying.
