Everyone wants longer lashes, but you don’t have to turn to extensions or falsies to achieve maximum lash length. To celebrate National Lash Day on February 19th, here are some easy and natural tips to extend those eyelashes.

Moisturize
Just like the rest of your body, your lashes need hydration. Moisturizing them every day can prevent breakage and help them grow longer. Check out our favorite ways to moisturize lashes here.

Massage
Giving your eyelid area a gentle massage near the lashes helps increase blood flow and circulation to promote lash growth. After washing your hands, use your fingers to massage near the roots of your lashes in circles. You can do the same with your scalp to encourage the hair follicles to grow stronger and longer.

Curl
First, warm your lash curler with a hairdryer to hold the curl better. Crimp as close as possible to your roots holding for ten seconds. Then move halfway up your lashes and then to your tips, pressing each section for another ten seconds. For a more intense curl, tilt the lash curler handle up towards your forehead slightly. Don't have a lash curler? Use a cotton swab or spoon and push your eyelashes upwards.

Comb
Take a sanitized lash brush, starting at the top of your lash line, and delicately roll it down and outwards through your lashes. You can comb through your lashes 10-15 seconds a day to fluff and separate them but avoid pulling them. A clean toothbrush will also do the trick.

Remove Makeup Properly
Eye makeup and mascara can dry out your lashes and irritate your eyes, especially waterproof mascara. It requires more makeup remover to take off. Avoid scrubbing or rough rubbing. Instead, with a gentle cleanser, dab and use soft circular movements to remove makeup. To unclog pores and deep clean your eyelids and lash lines, you can also apply a warm compress to your eyelids after cleansing.

Diet Matters
Believe it or not, what you eat can help your lashes grow. Adding onion, garlic, avocados, sweet potatoes, salmon, eggs, nuts, even steak to your diet can help speed up hair growth. Drinking green tea is also beneficial because the flavonoids in green tea can help stimulate eyelash growth.

If you want to use false lashes, here's our guide to applying them flawlessly.
