Life can get complicated, but healthy eating doesn’t have to be. Good Housekeeping Institute Registered Dietitian Stefani Sassos joined us in the LifeMinute kitchen to share simple nutritious hacks, easy summer recipes, and highlights of the magazine's favorite nutritionist-approved foods.
Produce is the cornerstone of a healthy diet, and a simple hack to get your veggies in is with frozen veggies since they are picked at peak ripeness and can have superior nutrition to fresh vegetables. We love Green Giant and their restaurant-style Garlic Parmesan Green Beans, a surefire way to elevate any meal. They're chef-created, premium vegetable cuts with delicious, savory sauces for a crunchy & flavorful side dish. Just toss them in the skillet, and they are ready to eat in minutes. A bag is just $4.49. They are perfectly great on their own. But we dressed them up with chopped almonds in a maple Dijon green beans side dish.
Fruit is packed with fiber, antioxidants, and other vital nutrients that can support overall health. Apples are nutritional powerhouses. And we're sure the Cosmic Crisp Apple will be your new go-to. These are classically bred between the Honeycrisp and Enterprise varieties, great for snacking, baking, juicing, you name it. We love its perfectly balanced flavor of sweet and tart notes. Firm and with a crisp texture, they are slow to brown. And are super versatile in a variety of sweet and savory dishes. We made a fabulous Cosmic Crisp Apple Bruschetta that will wow any guest.
Next up is a tasty, heart-healthy option for preparing quick and easy meals that are better for you and your family. Beyond Steak is a groundbreaking plant-based product and the first steak to be certified as a heart-healthy food by the American Heart Association. It is made from faba bean protein and delivers the tender, juicy, delicious experience of seared steak tips. It cooks from frozen in less than five minutes in a skillet or air fryer, is a good source of protein, has only 170 calories, is low in saturated fat (just 1g per serving), and has no added antibiotics, hormones, or cholesterol. You can get it in the frozen aisle at grocery stores nationwide, including Kroger, Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, and more.
When it comes to protein, eggs are a superstar too. Eggland’s Best Eggs are high-quality with that farm-fresh taste you love, plus they have superior nutrition, such as six times more vitamin D and ten times more vitamin E than ordinary eggs. You can find them anywhere. Just look for the red stamp. We created a make-ahead turkey sausage, veggies, and cheddar breakfast casserole that’s family-friendly and freezer-friendly.
Last but not least, Dash Seasoning Blends are a heart-healthy staple that is a smarter way to cook. And a simple, easy way to make your food more flavorful without the added sodium. There are dozens of fabulous options to choose from. The Original, an all-purpose blend, is the most popular. It has a peppery medley. You can find Dash in grocery stores nationwide in the spice aisle for just $3.29. Try it in a vinaigrette with a strawberry spinach salad. It’s a tangy twist on a summertime meal packed with a nutritious fresh mix of veggies and fruit slices.
