Sochi may be for athletes but designers have to bring their best game to the fashion olympics - New York Fashion Week. Carolina Herrera focuses her training on new proportions.
"It's round shoulders. Volume on the top but then very skinny on the bottom. And so the proportion is perfect," says Herrera.
Comedian Tina Fey knows Carolina's evening gown game is no joke.
"I was lucky enough to wear Carolina Herrera at The Golden Globes and fell in love," she says.
Russia isn't the only place people are loading on the layers, Kenneth Cole's models sport urban duds like neutral eparates and lug sole shoes for stomping out the competition.
"The theme of the collection is urban gypsy, it's very dynamic. It's clothes that are easy to wear you can layer them and interpret them personally. Clothes and accessorizing at the end of the day should define and empower the man or the woman," says Cole.
It's always a risk to try something new but it often pays off in high scores from the judges. Alice and Olivia designer Stacey Bendet takes a risk presenting off site in a hotel staging a fairytale. The brocade coats and black glitter dresses are a 10.
"I've just seen so many great things so I'm so excited," says Paris Hilton cheering from the sidelines.
Posen's color choices ? Reds are number one. Green takes the silver. Black the bronze.
These events can be very technical --- it's all about perfecting the details and Zac Posen does just that with his dresses celebrating a woman's curves.
"Every seem, every pleat every stitch was so carefully considered," says Amy Fine Collins, Vanity Fair contributor.
"It's nice to see a designer who is embracing the female form," concurs Ken Downing, Fashion Director at Neiman Marcus.
So much to cheer on at these events.
