Known as a master of ethereal, feminine dresses, designer Erin Fetherston launched her line a decade ago at the Paris Haute Couture Shows. Flash forward to her Spring 2017 show, and Fetherston finds herself looking back--and forward. After getting married and having a son, she implemented the idea of living a fairy tale into this collection.
Celebrities such as Kirsten Dunst, Katy Perry and Ellen Von Unwerth are unapologetic fans, wearing the designer's whimsical dresses on red carpets from coast to coast.
Refined Simplicity
"Spring 2017 is a very special collection for me. It marks my 10 year anniversary of showing at NY Fashion Week. And it's my first collection since giving birth and becoming a mother. I wanted to put together the collection that had the feeling of earthy ethereal elegance," she says.
Fashion experts often praise the designer's ability to create girly looks while maintaining an adult sensibility. "It's about finding ways to make easy pieces look refined and thoughtful. These are effortless pieces that you can be comfortable in and go from day to evening so you can enjoy your life and know you're looking great without having to overthink it too much."
Posh Parnerships
This season Fetherston is involved in several collaborations. The first is with jeweler Unearthen. " I'm wearing earrings from the collection today and you'll see pendant necklaces, cocktail rings." She also collaborated with denim line Parker Smith and Tkees for some "very special runway shoes."
Beauty Bites
Hair and makeup complemented the overall theme of the collection: "The collection features lots of wavy looks, so we wanted to get that comfortable, trendy and wavy vibe with the hair. We're getting further and further away from deep set curls," says hairstylist Joseph DiMaggio.
As for makeup, skin took center stage, according to artist Kelli J. Bartlett. "We wanted to make sure that it was the models' best skin day possible, so it's almost spa-fresh skin. The eye and the lip are really natural, very subtle. It's really important for a new mom to look bright so curling the lashes was definitely key."
