After a long summer of indulging, fall is a great time to turn over a new healthy leaf. In honor of the Fall season, we are bringing you some of our favorite tips and tricks to get back into a steady workout routine and keep that summer bod strong all year.
Set a Few Goals
Before doing anything, consider what your goals are. Are you looking to reach a new personal record on how many push-ups you can do or how much weight you can lift? Are you looking to hit a new personal best in running a certain distance? Or are you simply looking for a fun way to keep your body moving? These are all up to you. But make sure to keep these goals achievable and realistic for yourself.
Do Some Research
Based on your goal, take to the internet, and find places or activities that you feel could help you best achieve what you are aiming for, which could include finding a gym near you, finding regularly scheduled classes such as cycling or Zumba to keep you moving, or even something as simple as finding a park to do your morning run.
Get Yourself in a Routine
The next step is to create a routine within your schedule to keep things consistent. Get up a little extra early before work, and find a regular point in your schedule where you have an open space for activities of your own, whatever this is, and hold yourself accountable for sticking to it. This routine can be how little, or it can be how intense you want it to be. Just be sure to keep it safe and healthy.
Find a Friend to Workout With
Sometimes people find it beneficial to have a workout partner. Someone who you can work alongside, who keeps your motivation up. With your workout partner, you can collaborate on workout ideas, count each other's reps, and hold each other accountable for staying consistent. It's easy to make excuses for yourself. But with a partner by your side, you are more likely to maintain your routine.
Track Your Progress
Keep an eye on how you are progressing as you work out. Some easy ways to do this are by keeping a workout log. By writing down on paper how far you have come, you are giving yourself a visual idea of where you are, which can keep your spirits high and boost your motivation. You can also track your progress by downloading mobile apps. There are plenty of options to choose from, many of which allow you to track your times, weight changes, and stamina progression. It is essential to keep up with this because once you notice you have reached your goals, you can adjust your routine to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
