As we gear up for a time of transition – going back to school, a new season – now is the chance to take control of what’s most important . . . your physical and mental wellness! Planet Fitness just commissioned a national study that found Americans this fall are looking to get more active and improve themselves. Close to half of Americans will devote more time to exercise this fall than one year ago. And 50% say they will eat better-for-you foods than compared to last fall.
Exercise and daily activity can help reduce stress and alleviate anxiety, but routine functional movement can help keep you out of the fog altogether. The mental benefits of aerobic exercise have a neurological basis. Exercise reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that are the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators. Physical activity may help to bump up the production of your brain’s “feel good” neurotransmitters called endorphins.
If you want to improve your overall wellness this season, you can start by finding fun ways to be creative with your fitness. Who says that exercise has to be boring and mundane? Color outside the lines by doing fun things like dancing, going on nature walks, or even dusting off those old skates. The body can respond better to new activities, and having FUN with your fitness is the best way to keep it from becoming a chore. It’s also totally okay to pat yourself on the back and remind yourself just how awesome you are for getting your body in motion, no matter what it is or for how long you did it. When you feel that glow, share it with as many people as possible. Let the world know how good you feel from getting back into your rhythm, and inspire others to do the same.
With a renewed focus on improving your physical and mental wellness, Planet Fitness encourages everyone to get moving – and is making it easier than ever before. Now through September 16, you can join for $1 down, then $10 a month. Cancel anytime. Take a step towards improving how you look and feel. Even just 30 minutes of activity a day as part of a reliable routine can make a world of difference for physical and mental wellness – and is recommended for all adults.
