Who doesn’t love a relaxing bath? But did you know some of your bathing habits may be causing you more harm than good? Here’s how to get all the benefits of a warm soak and avoid making any mishaps.

Bathmosphere
Create a calming and spa-like space with candles, fresh flowers, and soft music. Have a plush bathrobe on hand and ditch the phone. Make sure your bathtub is clean too, but avoid using harsh cleaning products before use. Instead, opt for an eco-friendly cleaning agent or use everyday items like baking soda or lemon.

Perfect Temperature
The ideal bath temperature is between 90° F and 105° F, just above the average body temperature. To test, hold your wrist to the water to make sure it’s comfortable. It’s too hot if you have to slowly get in to tolerate the water or if you immediately start sweating.

Ideal Length
You can get the benefits of a bath without overdoing it. The sweet spot is about a half-hour. Staying in warm water too long can be harmful. Among other things, it can break down the skin barrier.

Good-for-You Essentials
Although bubbles and bath bombs are fun to use, they can be harmful due to the fragrances and colorants they may contain. You can still achieve a luxurious feel by adding essential oils such as lavender, eucalyptus, rose, and peppermint. To relieve muscle pain, try Epsom salt. For healing, use honey, and for softer skin, try coconut oil or oatmeal.

Benefits of a Hot Bath
Taking a warm soak can be a huge stress reliever. It can lower blood pressure, improve blood circulation, and ease sore muscles. A hot bath can also help relieve cold and flu symptoms. Taking one right before bed may help you fall asleep faster too.
