The Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) is the nation’s leading source on parasitic diseases that threaten the health of pets and people. Every year they release their annual parasite forecast and corresponding 30-day pet parasite forecast maps by county to alert pet owners of risks of diseases such as heartworm, Lyme, ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis across the US. With CAPC’s forecast maps pet owners and veterinarians can truly monitor parasitic disease risk in their county all the time.
This year, the risk for parasitic diseases continues to increase and expand into areas that previously had lower prevalence, putting more pets at risk for infection. There’s a high prevalence of heartworm (which is transmitted by mosquitos) across the country.
