The active wear trend in fashion is booming with sales of yoga pants surging higher than ever and the average pair costing nearly $90. Fitness gear is not for just working out anymore just ask actress Malin Akerman. We caught up with her last night in New York City the busy, actress, mom and fitness fanatic teamed up with LG to showcase its new SideKick Pedestal Washer the first laundry system that has a cycle specifically designed for active wear and it's compatible with their frontload washers from as far back as 2009. They say it's for small loads that are a big deal.
"It is a dual washer but the bottom SideKick is what is incredible about this thing. It's small load," says the actress, "I have a three-year-old son and so I don't know if you know about toddlers but they spill everything on themselves. You change their outfits about five times a day so it's great to throw in a quick load and you don't have to wait for a full load."
Putting this idea in motion at LG's Fit Fashion Event, she co-led a spin class with Cyc Fitness founder Keoni Hudoba, motivating guests to cycle away while learning about the technology behind this new laundry innovation.
"I think when you feel good, you want to go out and do something you want to motivate yourself," says Hudoba, "When you have that clean pair of gym clothes when you have a great outfit on you want to go you want to look good. Gyms are now like the social setting. It's the place where you meet your next boyfriend, girlfriend or you meet your new job."
"What Sidekick allows a consumer to do is take those three to four pairs of cycling shorts or yoga pants and be able to wash them almost immediately and wear them multiple times during the week.," says Dave Vanderwaal, Marketing, LG Electronics USA, "You can do a small load of colors maybe while your doing a large load of whites, also saves time, energy and water."
"Living mainly in California we have the whole drought and it's really important to save water and it's like one eighth of the water usage then you have with a regular washer," says the star.
Akerman's also starring in an LG fitness and fashion video series, showing how the TWINWash and SideKick pedestal washer help keep her fashionably fit and how others can look and feel their best everyday too. Other tips for juggling it all?
"You do anything to try to get some sort of balance. It's hard you know having a son and a career and trying to stay in shape," says the busy mom, "It's mainly just scheduling it out and making time, carving out time for something that's important."
As for her show 'Billions'?
She says, "I'm excited I'm looking forward to it. It's been such a great first season so I'm excited to see what they have in store for us!"
