Kid Safety: Duracell
Summertime also means kids are home more making safety around the home a priority for parents. Lithium coin batteries are small, disc-shaped cells about the size of a nickel, and they lurk everywhere in our home from remote controls, scales, flameless candles and more. Choking isn’t the only hazard, the lithium coin battery can get lodged in your child’s esophagus and burn through the surrounding tissue in as little as two hours, causing serious damage. And they send kids to the ER in record numbers. In fact, there are 7,000 battery ingestions in the U.S. each year, according to the National Capital Poison Center. So Duracell is on a mission to stop this. They’re the first and only brand to make lithium coin batteries with a bitter nontoxic coating that's made to deter a child from swallowing. Look for the “bitter taste” icon on the packaging to know these are the ones. Even the packaging is childproof and can’t be opened without scissors. Head to duracell.com/bitterisbetter to take the Bitter is Better Pledge to learn more about lithium coin battery safety and join parents across the country in pledging to replace the lithium coin batteries in their homes with the safest option for kids. In fact, Duracell is giving up to $1mm in batteries to ensure every home has the access they need.
