Weekend Warrior's On-the-Go Guide
Men's Health Mag's Clint Carter's picks to stay fueled, hydrated and protected from the elements on your next Summer excursion
The latest from Clif comes in varieties such as Fruit and Nut and Dark Chocolate. Clint says, "They taste great, they're gluten-free, [they're] made with high-quality organic ingredients. You can actually see large pieces of fruit, nuts and dark chocolate." The best news is they're under 200 calories. Clint's favorite? Coconut Almond Peanut which only has 6 grams of sugar.
This is another great choice to keep in hand. Says Clint, "It's essentially a dehydrated salad in flavors like Ranch and Thousand Island." It's made with high-quality and nutritious kale, spinach, cabbage and carrot, so it's a high-quality, nutritious snack you can feel good about eating around the campfire or while you're road tripping.
This MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certified tuna is packed in BPA-free cans making it easy to take with you, while providing you with sustainable nutrition. And the coolest thing? "You can actually see the signature of the fisherman who caught the tuna printed right there on the can," says Clint.
Honest Tea Lemonade
This lemonade is made with fair trade tea and sugar. "You know that it is coming from a good source that you can actually trust," says Clint. Now that's refreshing!
"Another product that I absolutely love for the summer is the 365 Everyday Value brand coconut water," says Clint, "It naturally contains five different electrolytes, which means while you're out there in the heat, you're not going to cramp up from dehydration."
Straight from Italy, this sparkling water has no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives but will keep you hydrated.
Fight Off the Elements
This one does double duty...with SPF 34 to keep you protected from the sun, plus citronella and cedar to repel insects. It's all-natural and free of DEET and other harsh chemicals usually found in other insect sprays.
If you do happen to get burnt, this is exactly what you need. "It's a travel-size container you can throw in your bag, and it is made with a little bit of aloe, too, so if you do end up a little bit sun-scorched it will soothe your skin so you can sleep comfortably," says Clint.
