The Oscar nominations were announced earlier today and there seemed to be some stars missing from the list like Adam Sandler, Jennifer Lopez, Robert De Niro and Lupita Nyong’o. Here are the biggest snubs of 2020.
Best Animated Movie Snub: Frozen 2
The sequel could not gather the same recognition as the original did at the 86th Academy Awards, where the original became the first film by Walt Disney Animation Studios to win for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for "Let It Go." Frozen 2 did however score a nom for original song.
Best Actor Snub: Taron Egerton, Robert De Niro and Adam Sandler
Newcomer Taron Egerton who took on the role of Sir Elton John in Rocketman did not get any recognition but he is in good company with two-time Oscar-winner Robert De Niro whose performance in The Irishman didn’t make the mark either. Many speculated Adam Sandler could earn his first Oscar nomination for his dramatic role in Uncut Gems, however he did not make the cut.
Best Original Song Snub: Beyoncé for “Spirit” from The Lion King
The original song, sung by Beyoncé who also voiced Nala in the live action film, fell short of a nomination.
Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Lopez, Lupita Nyong’o and Nicole Kidman
Jennifer Lopez was seen as a contender for an Oscar for her performance in Hustlers. Lupita Nyong’o who won in 2014, picked up no nominations for her role in Us. Nicole Kidman was left out as well, while her Bombshell costars, Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie each got one for that film.
