BlacKkKlansman writer and director Spike Lee, Actors John David Washington, Topher Grace, Robert John Burke and Ryan Eggold and celebrities Tiffany Haddish, Zosia Mamet and more turned out for the red carpet premiere in Brooklyn. The film depicts the true story of American hero Ron Stallworth, the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department and infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan in the early 1970s.
How did the cast prepare for the intense period piece? Topher Grace told us he did his research to take on the role of former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, while John David Washington (son of Denzel) got in the groove to play Ron Stallworth by listening to a '70s playlist given to him by Lenny Kravitz.
As for what viewers can take away from the film fueled with racial tension? Spike Lee says the story based on truth speaks for itself, "the audience does not need my help to tell them what to think or feel."
See BlacKkKlansman in theaters August 10th.
