TAMMY, simply put, follows the adventures of Tammy, a loudmouth with little life direction whose "bad day" puts into motion a wild road trip with her grandma Pearl.
"She is a well-meaning but terribly misguided woman who kind of can't get out of her own way," says Melissa McCarthy who stars in the titular role.
Ben Falcone, the film's director and McCarthy's husband, wrote the TAMMY screenplay with his wife; it's not the first time the two have worked together, both having had roles in the hit comedy Bridesmaids. "I want [the audience] to think it's really funny, and I want them to feel the heart of the movie, too," says Falcone of his directorial debut.
"There was so much improvisation. It was always fresh and always new," says co-star and Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon, "[It's] really a lot of fun when you're working with people that are brave because it makes you that much better."
TAMMY hits theaters on July 2. For more on the movie, go to www.tammymovie.com
