The cast and creators of The Fabelmans came out for the film’s premiere at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles last night. Stars Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Gabriel LaBelle, and Seth Rogen spoke about the story based on the life of Steven Spielberg and working with the acclaimed director on the very intimate film.
“This is a very personal story,” said Spielberg. “It’s the first time I’ve taken my privacy public, and I’ve never done that. You don’t see me doing that a lot in my life, and this is a story that I thought had some merit about my mom, and my dad and my sisters and formative years growing up.”
In the movie, Spielberg depicts his young self as Sammy Fabelman. The boy falls in love with movies after his parents take him to see The Greatest Show on Earth. The film also focuses on the complexities of families in addition to filmmaking.
“Families are complicated, and I don’t know any family that is not complicated,” confessed Spielberg. "I think there are a lot of universal truths in the story we’re telling.”
Watch The Fabelmans in theaters on November 11th.
