The newest class of inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has been announced with Tina Turner and Foo Fighters leading the way. Eleven other inductees will join the party, which is scheduled to be held at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio on October 30th.
Also earning a place in the Performer Category are the Go-Go's, Jay-Z, Carole King, and Todd Rundgren. The artists being honored with the Award for Musical Excellence include rapper LL Cool J, session keyboardist and frequent Beatles collaborator Billy Preston, and Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads. The Early Influence Awards will be given to German electronic music giants Kraftwerk, bluesman Charley Patton, and the person many consider to be the "first rapper," Gil Scott-Heron. Business and music impresario Clarence Avant, also known as “The Black Godfather,” will be presented with the Ahmet Ertegun (President of Atlantic Records) Award.
This will be the second time for Tina Turner, Carole King, and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters to be inducted. Turner and King both entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with their respective ex-husbands, Ike Turner and Gerry Goffin, while Grohl was inducted in 2014 as a member of Nirvana.
And the Go-Go's are finally getting their due respect and recognition 40 years after the release of their first album, “Beauty and the Beat.”
They made a steady climb to the top of the Billboard album charts reaching number 1 in 1982, making them the first all-female band in history to write their own songs, perform their own material, and score a No. 1 album. To this day, it’s a feat that has yet to be matched.
If you’re unable to get to Cleveland to witness this historic event in person, fear not, the ceremony itself will air on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
