Greg Holden is a Scottish-born, England-bred, New York-based singer and songwriter who is quickly gaining praise for his passionate purpose-driven rock songs and Mumford-style music. His first claim to fame was co-writing "Home," the hit single for American Idol winner Phillip Phillips. And now that he's released his first major label debut album, Chase the Sun, his songs are gaining worldwide popularity.
"My music is about a wide variety of things. Chase the Sun kind of jumped out to me because the whole album is about looking forward and up and being optimistic. It's a lot of realizations about myself, a lot of realizations about how I view the world," says Holden. He lists Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen as his inspirations. "I'm heavily influenced by the American singers and songwriters who sing with a purpose," he says.
The purpose behind his first Chase The Sun single, "Hold On Tight," is about being thankful for what you have. "It's a simple message about not taking life for granted. You know, about being in the moment and not necessarily clinging on to the things that you want or pining for the things you don't have," says Holden.
Holden is about to kick off a tour, covering Europe and the United States, during which he loves to meet his fan base and make new friends along the way. "I Iike to tell stories about other people. Sometimes I like to draw on personal experiences, but not always make them sound like they're about me. It's nice to kind of see how you bounce off other people. You can really learn from it," he says.
