AJR, according to Billboard, is "ready for stardom." The group of three brothers--Adam, 24, Ryan, 20, and Jack, 17--has a unique, catchy sound that has caught the ear of the public. Their hit single "I'm Ready," which was released in August of 2013, propelled them onto the Billboard Top 100 chart and landed them a record deal with Columbia Records. Their biggest hit "I'm Ready" has over twelve million YouTube views. The New York Post thinks this group could actually be the next Jonas Brothers, a hip-hop sensation that reigns supreme.
The three Metzger brothers were born and raised in New York City, and their music reflects the energy of their hometown. One of the most important tools the band has is their originality: "I think we're very big on being creative. I think you could see that a lot on our album. Just when you think we're going in a certain direction, we like to take a left turn and change the tempo and change the genre or put in a weird instrument or yodeling in a new song we have," says Ryan.
While the band is on the fast track to fame, they had humble beginnings. "We actually started off street preforming about ten years ago. We brought our instruments to Washington Square Park, and we just started playing. We ended up making enough money to buy a computer, pro tools, a microphone, and all of that. We brought it back to the living room and we have been recording there ever since," said Ryan.
AJR incorporates their transition into adulthood into their music. Their song "Infinity" combines both their youthfulness and maturity. "Infinity kind of works on two levels," says Ryan. "It's a love song, but it's also about nostalgia, and wanting to be a kid again." This humbleness and honesty is not only present in the band's music, but in their general attitude. They love and appreciate their success and find joy in "seeing the fans' faces reacting to the music that they have been listening to for such a long time" explains Jack.
