With 50 years in the biz and more than 100 million records sold to date, Bonnie Tyler has been a force and voice to be reckoned with in the music world. Her power pop-rock ballads “It's a Heartache,” “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” featured in Footloose, have showcased her range and raw vocal talent as well as earned her several Grammy and BRIT Award nominations as well as a huge global fanbase. But with all that success, the best is truly still yet to come for the iconic Welsh songstress.
This week we got the privilege of speaking with Tyler virtually from her home in beautiful Algarve, Portugal, on her 48th wedding anniversary, to husband Robert Sullivan, a 1972 Olympic judo athlete. She told us all about her new album, The Best is Yet to Come, upcoming tour, how she celebrated her 70th birthday last month, and her secrets for looking amazing and still going strong after all these years.
Working with David Mackay, the producer of her first record, Tyler recorded her 18th studio album before the pandemic, but its release was delayed until earlier this year. The twelve-track album is a throwback to the '80s with a nostalgic but fresh and energetic feel with songs written by the likes of Steve Womack, Neil Lockwood, and Desmond Child, who wrote for Bon Jovi and Aerosmith.
What's next for this ageless beauty? Tyler is already at work on her next album and will start recording in September. Also, in September, the release of a brand-new version of her signature hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” for an upcoming Classical/Dance crossover album by Alex Christensen and the Berlin Orchestra.
Until then, you can catch Tyler on tour all over Europe starting this month. She promises to perform all her classics but is excited for fans to hear the new music for the first time. Find dates at bonnietyler.com/tour.
