Katy Tiz's soulful voice have been climbing the charts with her catchy hit "The Big Bang" on Top 40 Radio charts and OK! Magazine is calling her the next Katy (as in Perry people!). The British singer shares how she almost missed her music calling and what to expect from her debut record before her acoustic performance at the Mondrian SoHo hotel.
"I've always been a huge fan of music but I was a late bloomer I didn't start till I was 18," says the singer who admits to struggling with self-confidence issues as a kid. "I remember stepping on stage for the first time, shutting my eyes and singing and being like this just feels natural. It feels like I'm meant to do this."
It's her cover of Rock Mafia's "The Big Bang" that landed her a deal with Atlantic Records.
Her first album is slated to be a heartfelt mixture of music genres. "It's between pop music, a little lick of reggae in there, a lick of urban in there, a lick of acoustic in there," she says.
The debut record also packs some ballads, which Katy gushes she "absolutely loves". As for her album name--her lips are sealed. "There is a title but I'm not telling you what it is. I'm not telling anyone what it is. My mom doesn't even know," she says.
When it comes to taking the stage these days the rising star gives it her all. "I sing from the heart every time, I have never gotten up on stage and not been able to get into the music," she says.
