The Maine Declares it Forever Halloween

Alt-rock band, The Maine, unplugged from a recent tour and gave the low down on their new album Forever Halloween. The band explained the album's chilling title and skeleton cover are not indicative of dark feeling music, but rather symbolic of their "bare bones" effort at creating a raw record.

Evolving and pushing boundaries on each album, The Maine's previous album, Pioneer broke ties with their major record label. The band independently released it and documented the journey in a film: "Anthem For A Dying Breed."

"For us making a record independently is really about control. It's a lot more work but we end up enjoying the creative control," said Kennedy Brock who plays rocks rhythm guitar for the group.

The five guys' fourth full-length album (also released independently on June 4th) reinforced their rep for thinking outside the box...it was recorded live through analog tape sans computer editing techniques.

Bassist, Garrett Nickelsen described the "70s'" style approach to recording as "really awesome." "I feel like this is the way we are going to record from now on," he said.

"I think is our first album that truly represents and encompasses what our abilities are as individuals and a band," said vocalist John O'Callaghan.

O'Callaghan showed off his songwriting abilities on the latest emotionally charged single, These Four Words.

"The song is really about let's just call it a relationship," said the band's frontman. "The song kind of translates what side of the fence that I sat on and unfortunately it was the side that wasn't in love with the other person."

O'Callaghan may be writing killer ballads for the band now but he was actually one of the last member to join The Maine back in 2006. "Garrett and our drummer Patrick were looking for a singer that is where I came in," explains O'Callaghan, "and about three months later after we had already kind of put up songs online we went on the road and kind of haven't stopped."

Fans can catch The Maine boys as they headline the 8123 Tour featuring A Rocket To The Moon, This Century and Brighten. What can concertgoers expect? O'Callaghan says: "a lot of comraderie and a lot shenanigans and just really an earnest good time."
