Rockstar violinist, David Garrett has been shaking up the strings ever since he signed his first recording contract at the age of 13. The German musician and model gave us the low down on his latest album, Music, before it's NYC premiere at The Best Buy Theater.
The classically trained artist's new album, Music is a crossover covering everything from rock and roll to R&B. "I really wanted to do an album that showcases what the violin can actually do," said the versatile performer.
His influences prove just as widespread as his repertoire, inspired by music greats, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, he also draws from contemporary. "I love jazz, I love R&B, I love Pink Floyd, I love The Band, Dr. John," says Garrett who's also a self-acclaimed "huge Metallica fan."
He's actually covered their "Master of Puppets", along with many other rock ballads; from Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" to Queen's "We Will Rock You."
The former child prodigy, who wows crowds around the world with his Julliard refined skills, says, "It really doesn't matter how many notes you can play as long as you play them well."
He relies on his strong technique to create music. "Without great virtuosity you will always struggle to totally be free from your instrument," he says, "If your brain thinks of what you are doing then your brain is in the way of feeling."
