Ryan Cabrera wants to make life easy for you.
In fact, the platinum-selling singer-songwriter and musician stopped by while on tour in New York to tell us just how accessible he wants to be to his fans and followers, "People can find me at Ryan Cabrera Twitter.com - slash - Ryan Cabrera Instagram, it's just Ryan Cabrera, it's very easy."
And, he's also inviting you into his living room. But we'll get to that in a moment.
First, we had some burning questions for Cabrera about his next full-length album, his first in nearly seven years, which will drop in 2015. "Yeah, 'House On Fire' is the first single off the record, so the first single that I put out," says Cabrera, "I told the producer when we were making the record...I was, like, I want this record to make me want to party."
And Cabrera isn't just inviting you to his "House" party...he wants you to sing along with him, with the help of a flaming hot lyric video for the new single. "For me, as a songwriter, I'm a very lyric-driven person," he tells us, "So it's cool to have, you know, the lyric video so people can actually see what you say and visually interpret it the way they want to and learn the lyrics, which is very important when you're a songwriter."
Cabrera, who began performing at 18, was discovered by Joe Simpson -- who was managing daughter Jessica Simpson's career at the time. "I moved in with the Simpson family and started singing for labels," the artist recalls, "And every label said, 'No no no no no no no.' And then eventually I wrote a couple [of] songs, and then all of a sudden, all those labels that said 'No' started calling, and I ended up signing a deal, and that was kind of how the rest started."
"The rest" now includes not just a successful music career but also the music series "Live From Ryan's Living Room" which makes its home in a special section on RyanCabrera.com. To drop by, you'll have to buy a ticket -- but it's for a good cause. Proceeds have benefited various charities to the tune of more than $17,000 so far.
"So anybody who loves music needs to watch that show," says Cabrera, "Because everybody performs, from unknown artists to artists that [you] know and love. And people can donate whatever they want; it can be like the smallest amount, if you don't have much, even just a little bit. And then every month we kind of switch charities just to, you know, give back. ... It's good for everybody because we get to perform, which is fun, and we also are raising money at the same time."
