Singer-songwriter Todd Carey's album doesn't drop until early 2014, however its first single "Nintendo" is already getting some play. The pop artist whose 2010 EP "After The Morning After", broke the Top 40 on iTunes talks about his upcoming full-length record and heading out on the '8 Bit Heartbeat' U.S. tour this fall.
So what made the Studio Guitar major want to get into music? "It never was a choice or desire... it was always unspoken in there from the beginning," says the University of Southern California graduate.
Even though music was innate, his outgoing personality came later.
"I was kind of like a shy kid, which seems crazy right now but I think there was some feedback that came from performing and playing music that really helped me and from there on I was like addicted," says Carey.
Something else addicting...his new song "Nintendo" off his upcoming record Future Throwback, on Blaster Records.
"The song isn't really about videogames" clears up Carey but rather a trip down memory lane packed in a pop record.
"It's fun, it's a party... it reminds you like it takes you back to being in love and you know it's really a summer song," says the singer.
Carey heads out on the 8 Bit Heartbeat' U.S. tour with Curtis Peoples and will be playing songs off the album he calls the core of who he is.
"I like the challenge of like making the show, getting people... even though they haven't heard a lot of these songs," says Carey, "especially on this tour that's coming up people will be posting like clips of songs."
And if you tweet Carey @ToddCarey you can be sure of a response.
"I enjoy interacting with people," says Carey.
