The Wild Feathers Bring Back 'Good Old Rock & Roll'
The Nashville based-band chats about their throwback sound and playing this summer's biggest music festivals

"Good old American rock & roll" is how The Wild Feathers describe their harmony driven sound that landed them a deal with Warner Brothers. Sounds about right since, they've opened for the likes of Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, recorded a new album and toured the US and Europe. The bandmates took a few minutes away from shooting Late Night with Seth Meyers to talk to us about what they have coming up.
Previously the lead singers of four different bands Ricky Young, Joel King, Taylor Burns and Preston Wimberly joined drummer Ben Dumas to form The Wild Feathers. "We were all doing music before we were into this," said Dumas, the only bandmate who doesn't sing on their debut album released last year.
"It's a wide range of songs on the record. We play classic rock & roll but with harmonies," says King, the lead singer who also plays bass.
And if you only listen to the tracks once you might miss something..."The more you go through the album with every spin the more you pick up on it," says Dumas referencing each of their signature vocals.
"Backwoods Company" is one of those songs that you will want to give a second listen. "One of those just rambunctious and kind of like a little bit of edginess to it and stuff like that a little darker," says King, "We like to take it down and do acoustic and strip it down and then we also like to turn it up as loud as it will go too."
You can expect the same ride when you come to a show. "They can see a loud rock band up there singing a bunch of harmonies," says Dumas, "We give it 110% every time."
And even after giving it their all on their U.S. and European tour, the guys are not taking a break. You can find them playing festivals featuring Sheryl Crow and Zac Brown Band as well as some smaller gigs this summer.
