Mermaid Chic At The Monique Spring 2013 Fashion Show
"For me the inspiration was water. I was in Turkey and I was on a boat and I was like that's it. I'm going to run with this water idea and then that turned into very fluid silhouettes, almost mermaid-like girls for evening," said designer Monique Lhuillier of her Spring 2013 fashion show which she debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Models walked down the catwalk in beautiful flowing blue frocks, colorful bright prints and dresses embellished with seashells. "I'm a huge fan of hers. First of all, she's a sweetheart. But you know what, we're going to get high glamour here," said Style Expert Jay Manuel. The beauty look was equally as alluring.
"To go with this gorgeous, glamorous, aquatic feeling, we've got a cobalt aquatic eye and gorgeous glamorous skin with lots of highlighter and bronzer. It's a very rich complexion," explained makeup artist Val Garland. "I wanted to tie in the look with a light shimmer and moonlight for the nails. Nails are very important because it finishes the look," said Lhuillier. "It's all about movement and fluidity. She wanted to see something that would look like movement under water, but not too opal and not really opaque," said CND Nails celebrity manicurist Candice Manacchio who used CND Lavender Longing and Lavender Pearl polishes mixed together with a top layer of Lavender Pearl.
What's the must-have of the collection? "The must-have from my collection is a digital print. Whether it's in a blouse like I'm wearing today or in a cocktail silhouette, I think prints are really in and it makes such a strong statement. It's young. It's fun. I think that is what fashion is all about. You shouldn't take it too seriously," said Lhuillier.
