Legendary former MLB pitcher Fernando Valenzuela dies at 63
Just days before the Dodgers throw out the first pitch at the 2024 World Series, the franchise is mourning the loss of one of its all time greats. Valenzuela, who played 17 seasons in the Major Leagues, 11 of which were with the Dodgers, passed away on Tuesday night in Los Angeles at 63 years old. The pitcher, who inspired “Fernandomania” within the league, earned some of the MLB’s top merits within his professional career, including the esteemed Cy Young Award and Rookie of the Year in 1981. Along with the Dodgers, he also pitched for the Los Angeles Angels, the Philadelphia Phillies, the San Diego Padres, the Baltimore Orioles, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Actor Frankie Muniz lands full-time racing gig with NASCAR
Best known for his role as the titular character in Malcolm in the Middle, actor Frankie Muniz is going all in on his racing career. Professional stock racing team Reaume Brothers Racing made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing that they officially signed with the 38-year-old actor and driver to go full-time. Muniz, who has raced competitively regularly over the last 20 years, will drive in the No. 33 Ford for the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season.

National Horror Movie Day is celebrated
October 23 is National Horror Movie Day and with Halloween just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to cozy up on your couch and watch your favorite frightening flick. Celebrate the occasion and fuel your fear with a classic such as Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, or The Shining, or build up suspense with a newer film that you maybe haven’t seen before. You can also check your local movie theater to see if they are offering any special screenings in honor of the spooky season.

National Boston Cream Pie Day is also recognized in the U.S.
Celebrated annually on this day, National Boston Cream Pie Day celebrates the unique dessert that, despite its name, is really more so a cake than it is a pie. Dating back to 1856, Boston Cream Pie was first served at Boston's Parker House Hotel to honor its grand opening. With its creamy filling, buttery sponge cake, and decadent chocolate coating, this delish dish has become a third course staple and has served as the inspiration for other sweet treats such as Boston Cream Donuts and Boston Cream Cupcakes.
