Palisades Fire ravages Southern California, scorching nearly 3,000 acres of land
More than 50,000 Los Angeles area residents face urgent evacuation orders as five major fires spread rapidly across Los Angeles County, the largest of which in Pacific Palisades. According to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the Palisades fire has spread over approximately 2,925 acres of land. The second largest of the five fires, the Eaton Fire, has burned across 2,227 acres as of this morning. At least 20 school districts in Los Angeles County have reportedly closed as a result of the fires, as well as Pepperdine University’s Malibu and Calabasas campuses. Universal Studios Hollywood has also announced park closures amid the crisis. Celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Bradley Cooper, and Adam Sandler all notably have homes in the Pacific Palisades area, while Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, James Woods, and Lakers coach JJ Redick have spoken publicly on being evacuated.
