The day of love is thought to have been celebrated as early as 496 AD, not being associated with romantic love until the 14th and 15th centuries.
Today, an estimated 27.5 billion is projected to be spent, breaking down to $188.81 per person. Millennials are the generation who spends the most on gifts followed by Gen Z, Gen X, and lastly, Boomers.
Men will spend almost twice as much as women, on average, for their sweetheart this year. It is anticipated that 35% of Americans plan to give the gift of an experience.
