Jimmy Cliff reggae star dead at 81
The two-time Grammy-winning Jamaican icon whose music helped bring reggae to a global audience, has died at the age of 81. He passed away after suffering a seizure, followed by complications from pneumonia. His wife, Latifa, shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram statement, expressing her gratitude to fans for their support. “Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes,” she wrote. Rising to prominence in the 1960s, Cliff became one of reggae’s most influential figures with timeless hits such as “I Can See Clearly Now,” “Wonderful World, Beautiful People,” and “Many Rivers to Cross.” A gifted multi-instrumentalist, he was celebrated for his artistic versatility and global impact. In 2010, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the genre’s true pioneers.
