The tragic incident took place shortly after authorities received a call from hotel staff reporting an erratic guest under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Preliminary findings have suggested that he died instantly due to head trauma, with health officials claiming that his injuries were “incompatible with life.” Payne’s career took off in 2010 when he was grouped together with bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan while appearing on The X Factor. The band went on to become a worldwide sensation, releasing 5 studio albums and departing on 4 world tours before their official split in 2016.
