Tiger Woods stepping away from golf to seek treatment after DUI arrest
Golf star Tiger Woods announced he will take a break from professional golf to seek treatment and prioritize his health following a recent DUI-related incident. The decision comes after a rollover crash last Friday, when Woods’ SUV struck a trailer. He told investigators he was distracted by his phone and adjusting the radio at the time. Officers reported that he appeared disoriented during field sobriety tests, noting signs such as excessive sweating and difficulty walking. Although a breathalyzer test showed no alcohol, deputies discovered prescription pain medication in his possession. Woods said he had taken multiple prescribed drugs related to his extensive history of back and leg surgeries. He has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor DUI with property damage and declined a urine test. His arraignment has been waived, with a court hearing scheduled for May 5, 2026. Woods will also miss the 2026 Masters, marking the second year in a row he has been absent from the tournament after previously sitting out due to injury.
