Amanda Peet has shared that she was diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer in fall 2025, detailing her experience in a personal essay, “My Season of Ativan,” published in The New Yorker. After a routine scan detected a hormone-receptor-positive, HER2-negative tumor, Peet underwent a lumpectomy and radiation, avoiding chemotherapy. A second mass later found in the same breast was ultimately confirmed to be benign. Her diagnosis came amid personal loss, as both of her estranged parents were in hospice care; her father died before she could visit, and her mother—who had Parkinson’s disease—passed away in January 2026.
