The Jackson 5’s Tito Jackson dies at 70
Best known as a founding member of the iconic Jackson Five and the brother of “King of Pop” Michael Jackson, Tito Jackson passed away suddenly on Sunday after reportedly suffering a heart attack. The singer was on tour with brothers Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson at the time of his passing, with their most recent show performed on September 8. His death was revealed in a social media statement written by his children, saying “He will be missed tremendously. It will forever be “Tito Time” for us. Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is “Love One Another.” We love you Pops.”
Shōgun and The Bear win big, setting new records at the 2024 Emmy Awards
The 2024 Emmy Awards made history last night with some of this year’s biggest hits setting new records. The FX hit historical drama Shōgun set a new all-time record for most wins in a single season of a show, taking home 14 at last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys and 4 during last night’s primetime broadcast. The series took home primetime awards for best drama series, directing for a Drama Series, Anna Sawai for best actress in a drama series, and Hiroyuki Sanada for best actor. The Bear broke some records of its own last night beating last year’s record for most wins of a comedy series in a single season. The show previously held the record at 10, but stepped up their numbers this year with 11 total wins, most notably taking home directing for a comedy series, Jeremy Allen White for Lead actor in a comedy series, Liza Colón-Zayas for supporting actress, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach for supporting actor. Other big winners of the night included Hacks, which upset The Bear for best comedy, Baby Reindeer for limited or anthology series, and The Daily Show for best talk show, highlighting the impact of Jon Stewart’s return to the show.
The West Wing celebrates 25th anniversary with cast reunion on-stage at the Emmys
Stars Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Dulé Hill, and Richard Schiff came together in front of an audience to reflect on 25 years since the show’s September 1999 premiere. The group took the time to humorously reflect on how the political landscape has changed since their time “in the office,” joking that writers back then would find many of today’s headlines “a bit far fetched” for the drama. Notably absent from the reunion was actor Bradley Whitford, who starred as White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman. However Whitford took note of his absence on social media, writing “It breaks my heart not to be able to be with my West Wing family at the Emmys tonight or at the White House later this week to celebrate our 25th birthday, but I’m in Budapest on another White House set pretending to work for another administration.”
