Martin Scorsese Joins Daughter Francesca Scorsese at Premiere of Her Film Fish Out of Water at The Tribeca Film Festival

The young writer/director shares how her personal life inspired the film as well as the best advice her famous father has given

At just 23 years old, Francesca Scorsese has written and directed a film following in the footsteps of her famous father, Martin Scorsese. He joined his daughter on the red carpet at the premiere of her film Fish Out of Water at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere on Sunday.

She wrote the script for her thesis film at New York University, where she graduated. The story is very personal to the young writer/director, whose mother suffers from Parkinson's disease. “The film is about family illness and coming together through all of that, so that’s kind of how I cope with my situation,” she said.

As for advice she has received from her father, she said she literally keeps a notes tab of everything he tells her. “Staying as authentic to myself as I can be…if I am feeling really passionate about something, to really stick to my gut."
