Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan debuted his latest thriller Old at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City earlier this week. The writer and director, best known for his movie The Sixth Sense, was surrounded on the red carpet by his wife and three daughters, including singer-songwriter Saleka Shyamalan who wrote a song for the film.
Old is based on the graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frederik Peeters. The book was gifted to Shyamalan by his daughters. The film, set in the Dominican Republic, follows a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly.
The cast reflects a diversity of nationalities and ages. Most of the actors were on the sandy-colored "red carpet" to discuss the film. The screening was the first time many moviegoers' were back in theaters since the pandemic. The movie’s ensemble includes Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Ken Leung, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Abbey Lee, Aaron Pierre, Kathleen Chalfant, Alexa Swinton, Nolan River, Kylie Begley, Embeth Davidtz, Eliza Scanlen, Alex Wolff, Emun Elliott, and Thomasin McKenzie.
